【A True Hidden Retreat in Kyoto|Stay in Ishibei-koji】
“What is this little lane?”
Passersby often pause and peer into Ishibei-koji, a stone-paved alley that quietly preserves the timeless atmosphere of Kyoto.
At the end of this winding path, you will find a hidden retreat.
Ishibei-koji Muan is located near Kodaiji Temple, within walking distance of Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Yasaka Shrine.
Although surrounded by famous sights, the inn is set away from major roads, allowing you to rest both body and mind in deep tranquility.
With a warm, welcoming ambiance that feels like returning home, we gently invite you into a place of calm and comfort.
【Limited to Three Groups per Day】
Ishibei-koji Muan is an intimate inn with only three guest rooms.

Our attentive staff may feel like close friends at times, and at other moments serve as your personal concierge—supporting your journey in Kyoto with care and sincerity.
【Feel the Beauty of the Present Moment】
There are no televisions in the guest rooms.
Instead, you are invited to enjoy the quiet of the night, and during the day, to listen to the gentle footsteps along the stone alley—letting your thoughts wander and your imagination unfold.
The rooms are simple yet refined, featuring carefully chosen traditional materials, architectural details, tatami mats, and antique furnishings.
Each room is equipped with a private hinoki (Japanese cypress) bath, perfect for soothing your body after a day of sightseeing.
We offer a selection of thoughtfully chosen amenities for your comfort.
Blending inherited traditions with modern sensibilities, the rooms provide a serene and relaxing stay.

Embodying the essence of Small Luxury, the Hanami Room offers an intimate haven where refined simplicity meets timeless beauty.
Located on the ground floor overlooking a tranquil courtyard garden, this room invites you to slow down and savor each quiet moment.
Drawing inspiration from the traditional Japanese tea room, it features tatami flooring, hanging scrolls, bamboo blinds, shoji and fusuma screens — each element crafted to reflect harmony, balance, and subtle elegance.
The spirit of the tea room lies in wabi-sabi — an appreciation for quiet beauty and imperfection, where serenity and grace unfold in simplicity.
Natural textures and gentle light create a space that soothes the senses.
For your comfort, plush bedding with thick mattresses ensures a deep and restful sleep.
A historical suit of armor from the Watanabe Hanzō family, retainers of Tokugawa Ieyasu in the Edo period, adds a touch of cultural authenticity.
In your private hinoki bath, the gentle fragrance of Japanese cypress surrounds you, offering a meditative escape from the rhythm of everyday life.
Every detail, from curated amenities to the serene design, reflects our wish to provide a moment of quiet luxury.
Enjoy the view of the garden, the stillness, and the feeling of time gently unfolding — a rare tranquility found only here.

Located on the second floor, Hangetsu offers a serene view of Kyoto’s stone-paved lanes,
where the quiet charm of the old capital invites you to pause, breathe, and forget the passage of time.
As its name “Hangetsu” — meaning half moon — suggests,
the room evokes the poetic nights of ancient Japan,
when poets and nobles composed verses under the soft glow of the moon.
Through the bamboo blinds, the moonlight filters gently into the bedroom,
casting a quiet, wistful beauty across the space.
The bedroom by the window and the relaxing living area are divided by shoji screens,
creating a sense of intimacy and calm within the stillness.
Minimalist in design, the room celebrates the beauty of space and simplicity,
offering a refined yet quietly romantic retreat for two.
Inside, Ryukyu tatami mats — borderless and square-cut — are arranged in alternating directions,
so that a soft checkerboard pattern appears as light moves across the floor.
Now rarely produced and considered highly valuable,
these tatami lend an understated touch of luxury to the serene ambiance.
The private hinoki bath invites you to unwind in the pure scent of Japanese cypress,
letting the warmth and fragrance gently ease both body and mind.
Every amenity has been selected with care,
allowing you to experience the refined stillness and subtle luxury that define Kyoto’s spirit.
Whether traveling alone, as a couple, or with close friends or family,
Hangetsu offers a quiet, elegant stay that feels both personal and timeless.

The living area, adorned with Ryukyu tatami mats, is bathed in soft, calming light, creating an elegant space where guests can relax and unwind completely.

Exposed wooden beams, reminiscent of classical Kyoto townhouses, add a sense of heritage and timeless elegance to the suite.
A dedicated tea room corner lined with Japanese tatami allows guests to immerse themselves in Kyoto’s refined atmosphere.
A hanging scroll in the alcove and the subtle aroma of tatami enhance the tranquil environment. Sliding shoji screens can enclose the space, making it perfect for meditation, reading, or quiet reflection.
